PODAS Cuba April 6-14, 2017

Camera Voyages has teamed up with Phase One PODAS for a one of a kind photo workshop in Cuba.

Cuba is in a remarkable state of transition, and offers unprecedented photographic opportunities. This will be our first PODAS Workshop to Cuba but for our guide, Camera Voyages’, it’s a home away from home. Our accommodations are with the Cuban people in the best casa’s in the right locations. The people you will meet will become your friends and favourite subjects. The combination of 15th century architecture and early American cars will make you think you have travelled through time. The music, the art, the sun and experiencing Cuban culture first-hand will embrace you in every step you take.

The beauty and culture of Cuba

Our PODAS workshop in Cuba will focus on the Cuban culture, their traditions and lives, as well as the landscape that has been shaped by over 500 years of Spanish and Cuban rule. We will photograph the local boxers, have a photo session with Spanish dancers, visit and dine with local Cuban artist, ride in vintage American cars, and walk streets that were built 500 years ago creating photos of a lifetime. As we walk the streets and soak in the atmosphere, our friends and famous Cuba artists will be with us, opening up many doors to explore. We will travel to Trinidad, Cuba, one of the oldest cities in the country, soaking in the landscape and stopping at local farms to meet the farmer’s and see how they live.

Our Instructors

Bruce Byers and William Vazquez are no strangers to exploring the culture and people of Cuba. Together with Carlos Rene Aguilera, a wonderful Cuban artist, they’ve tried hard to explore every aspect of this island over the years and yet they’ve only scratched the surface. In addition, Paul Reiffer will be joining us as an instructor and fellow world adventurer. Paul Reiffer has travelled around the world capturing people, landscapes and commercial images for many years.

Bruce Byers and William Vazquez along with Carlos have been to just about every part of the Cuban island. They will share with us some amazing locations, art, music and people, organising some truly unforgettable events all while bringing their years of photographic wisdom to share with us all.

Be it rising early for sunrise over the Malecon, instructing on the finer points of portrait photography with the people and farmers, or helping us capture the subtle light and grand sky over the sea at sunset, this team never failed to inspire and delight.

Owner, Bruce Byers

Worth to know

Like all PODAS workshops our trip to Cuba is all-inclusive.  There’s no need to worry about opening your wallet once you arrive as the workshop fee covers meals, lodging and transportation. Each attendee will be provided their own Phase One XF camera system to use during the workshop and be provided access to our complete line of lenses, accessories and first hand technical knowledge.

This PODAS is designed to be as inspiring and educational as it is adventurous, while still remaining relaxing and informal. Though we’ll be spending a majority of our time in the field to make use of the morning and evening light, there will be inspirational presentations from our instructors, educational Camera and Capture One tutorials from Phase One staff as well as a bit of downtime in the middle of the day to allow you enjoy the tranquility that Cuba has to offer.  We will cover many advanced techniques of the XF Camera System as they pertain to Landscape and Portrait photography.

This workshop emphasizes the proper use of the XF Camera System and the techniques to ensure consistent success... with a bit of room to enjoy a drink and music at the local bodega. Our PODAS group will be limited to 14 participants to ensure our instructors and staff can provide ample attention to everyone.

As is standard in PODAS, you’ll receive a complimentary F-Stop camera bag and Capture One Pro Software License when you arrive in Tampa prior to the group flying to Cuba. After the workshop we’re also happy to provide you with two large format professional prints, delivered to your door.

The cost of this trip is U.S. $5800 per person.  PODAS will cover all expenses once you arrive at Miami International Airport (MIA) in Miami, Florida. The only expense that is not covered by PODAS is alcohol and additional room charges during your stay. If you are an American, there is no US banking so bringing $500 in US cash for extras is always a good idea.

Phase One will pick you up at the airport upon your arrival and provide all lodging, meals and transportation with the group until returning you to the airport at the end of the workshop.

For detailed itinerary, and to book your spot on the trip go to the Phase One PODAS page. Book early!
